Finding Hope & Healing
Sexual abuse causes great suffering in the lives of victims and those who love them. Often, the natural human instinct is to turn from the pain of abuse and attempt to move forward without fully acknowledging the weight of the abuse, its impact, and the suffering it has caused. Yet, healing cannot take place without acknowledging that there has been hurt.
One of the most scary and brave things a person can do is to identify their past experiences as sexual abuse and to recognize the way in which these experiences have impacted them. Doing so can initially cause a person to feel powerless, hopeless, broken, and more. Yet, identifying the problem is the first step towards healing and wholeness.
God loves each of us too much to leave us hurting and broken. When we are ready, He desires to fully restore us and to bring victory out of the very situation that the devil used to harm us. Complete and total healing is possible. Jesus won the ultimate victory over the devil and sin when He was crucified and resurrected. There is nothing too hard or too painful for Jesus to restore to full glory. He desires to restore our sexuality, our identity, our relationships with others, and our relationship with Him.
Jesus is kind and gentle. He does not force anyone to be ready to face past abuse or force healing all at once. Rather, He sits with us in the pain. He weeps with us, comforts us, and gently points us towards healing. The healing process is never linear, consisting of many victories and setbacks, but we can be assured that Jesus is there with us every step of the way.
