Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)

Perhaps you are searching quietly and yearn for a deeper relationship with God. Are you looking for a sense of belonging in a faith community and a greater fulfillment of your mission in life? Are you looking for a pressure-free, non-judgmental environment where you can learn more about the Catholic Church?

If you are not baptized, are not Catholic, or are Catholic and have not received the sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation; we invite you to look deeper into the mystery of God and the faith of the Church through the process known as Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). RCIA is a modern form of the ancient process used in the first centuries of Christianity for admitting new members into the Church of the apostles. The formation process is concerned with the total formation of the person: learning about the Church community (doctrinal formation), living with the Church community (practical formation), praying with the Church (liturgical formation), and serving with the Church community (apostolic formation).

If you feel that you are being called to explore and deepen your faith and would like more information, we invite you to contact our Director of Adult Catechesis, Bri Campbell: bri.campbell@stjohnsindy.org  or 317-635-2021.

What are others saying about the RCIA program?

Here’s what a few individuals have to say about why you or someone you know should consider taking the RCIA classes:

“Do it to encounter the purest and most genuine love. The program does a great job of not only teaching the fullness of God’s love, but, through catechesis, the church, and the sacraments, offering the path to knowing and more greatly sharing in that divine love.”  Christianne

“Entering into full communion with the Church is a privilege and one of the most important commitments of one’s adult life. RCIA is a great opportunity to learn more about Catholic teaching and how to apply it to our lives in order to more fully live out our calling as Christ’s Body in the world.”  Jonathan & Kristen

“I had quite a few misconceptions of the Catholic Church from my Protestant upbringing (i.e. the Pope, Mary, the Saints, confession, the Eucharist). RCIA teaches on all of it and now those things I never believed are what I hold most dear.”  Jessica

“I like how welcoming the parishioners and staff at St. John’s have been since my first visit. The atmosphere is very positive and comfortable.  I grew up Lutheran and after some inquiry and research I knew I wanted to join the Catholic church. I was excited to strengthen my relationship with Christ and surround myself with people that have the same desire.” Brandon

“RCIA not only showed me the beauty of the Church, but opened my life up to so many wonderful people that have made St John’s a home for me.  I can’t imagine my life without this parish and the faith the people here have shared with me.”  Anonymous

“My wife first introduced me to the Catholic Church in high school when she invited me to join her for Mass.  I was excited to become Catholic because I would be able to participate in the sacraments.  Being at St John’s is very inspiring because it is connected with the college campus and there are many young adults that actively participate in the life of the church.” Justin

“RCIA was not only my way to become a member of the Catholic family, but also a way to achieve a deeper understanding of the Bible.  I have been able to use my experiences in RCIA to witness to other people in my life about why we (Catholics) do the things we do.”  Laura
