SOLES for SOULS
Garden Door Supporters:
The response to our request for plastic grocers bags was beautiful! Let's keep them coming and many thanks. Cooperation from many prompts us to seek additional help from a large group already committed to the Garden Door Ministry.
Having a continuous supply of decent, used, walking shoes has not been a fact since we've been offering clothing to our homeless neighbors. It's not totally unusual for a person to ring the door bell, wearing shoes actually falling apart or with bare feet. It's a sad day for all when we have no shoes. And it does happen. Shoe donations are not usual, so we've been purchasing them. Not an easy task, time or money wise.
We hope to make SOLES for SOULS a shoe outreach for our Parish. Anyone who would like to participate would be a Walking Member. No registration, no meetings, no set hours, no dues and no checking up on anyone. Simply, bring a pair of used shoes, suitable for lots of walking, that you would like to pass on to a homeless person. (Sizes 9 1/2 to 13). Coming to Mass? Drop them in the Drop Box (wooden box in the narthex) in back of Church. Coming during the week? Drop them by the parish office: Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 9-5pm or Tuesday and Thursday 9-7pm. One pair a month is what we're hoping to receive, from many.
In this Year of Mercy, SOLES for SOULS can be a merciful endeavor. Please pray about participating. Spread the word to family, friends and co-workers. Many will be happy to be involved with homeless.
Sources to purchase used shoes: Wheeler Mission Thrift Store on Madison Ave, Salvation Army Stores, Good Will Stores and Value World Stores, 4 locations around Indianapolis. Low prices ($4.50 - $8.00),plus discount at times.
