Director of Mission & Discipleship for Men
St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in downtown Indianapolis, IN is seeking to hire a Director of Mission & Discipleship for Men (Parish Missionary).  This position would either be Full Time or Part Time (20-40 hours per week negotiable). The mission of the Catholic Church is the Great Commission given from Jesus in Matthew 28:19, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”  The purpose of this position is to help lead the parish initiative to fulfill the mission of the Church with our parishioners and the community at large, along with a Missionary for Women.

    Responsibilities:
    • Help to continue to fulfill the new evangelization to re-invigorate Catholics by inviting those who are Christian to a fullness of faith and sharing our personal encounter with those who have not known Jesus Christ.
    • Help equip parishioners, neighbors and friends of St. John’s with the tools and courage to become missionary disciples and disciple makers.
    • Build personal relationships with parishioners encouraging them to a deeper commitment to Missionary Discipleship.
    • Share the Gospel with parishioners and non-parishioners on a personal basis, inviting people into a deeper relationship with Christ and His Church; sharing with them the call to be an intentional disciple. As disciples continue to be built and taught, they must then go on to share the Good News with others in the parish and community, thus becoming missionary disciples and disciple makers themselves.
    • Help lead, teach and share the vision of spiritual formation through discipleship and evangelization by hosting large group events to cast this vision
    • Meet with people one-on-one to encourage, challenge, and train them to not only be disciples of Jesus, but also to bring others to Him. The one-on-one training will include accountability to a strong prayer life, the Sacraments, lived virtue, community and how one can personally disciple others.

    Qualifications:
    • Practicing, Sacramentally Sound Catholic
    • Love for God, His Church and His People
    • Embraces being a missionary disciple and a disciple maker and shows evidence of this in daily life
    • Knowledge and desire to live the New Evangelization
    • Knowledge of and desire to teach the beauty, goodness and truth of the Church through Scripture, Tradition, and Magisterium.
    • Self Starter, Self-Disciplined and Motivated to daily task and mission
    • Ability to plan and lead prayer, one on one discipleship, small and large group events
    • Ability to work on a team towards the Mission of the Church

    Working Environment/Demographics:
St. John the Evangelist is the oldest Catholic Church in the city of Indianapolis.  Founded in 1837 by Irish and German immigrants, the parish sits in the heart of the city and is known as “a beacon of light” for the city of Indianapolis. St. John’s is intentional about “Opening Wide the Doors to Christ” to invite all people into our sacred place.  We are also intentional about “Going Out” to share the Good News with all the nations!
St. John’s serves six distinct demographics of people: Traditional Parishioners, Young Adults, University Students, Daily Mass Goers, Visitors to the City and Homeless Neighbors.  Each of these groups have particular needs and gifts to share with the community.
Indianapolis is a rapidly growing city with over 4000 new housing units being built in the next two years in the greater downtown area.  These new city dwellers are mostly young adults moving to Indy to live, work and play.  Additionally, many empty nesters are migrating to the city to settle in their retirement years and to enjoy the sports, arts and social life of the city.
St. John’s has grown exponentially with the growth of the city.  The parish is currently over 2500 adult parishioners with 60% of these being young adults, between the ages of 18-35.  St. John’s will host 80 weddings this year with over half being parishioner weddings.  The community has experienced a spike in growing young families and a vibrant young church.  St John’s embraces this growth and is active in evangelization and sharing the Good News.  Over the past five years, the parish has welcomed an average of 28 adults into full communion through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.
