Consecrated Life
Christ proposes the evangelical counsels, in their great variety, to every disciple. The perfection of charity, to which all the faithful are called, entails for those who freely follow the call to consecrated life the obligation of practicing chastity in celibacy for the sake of the Kingdom, poverty and obedience. It is the profession of these counsels, within a permanent state of life recognized by the Church, that characterizes the life consecrated to God. -Catechism of the Catholic Church, 915
"We are all aware of the treasure which the gift of the consecrated life in the variety of its charisms and institutions represents for the ecclesial community. Together let us thank God for the Religious Orders and Institutes devoted to contemplation or the works of the apostolate, for Societies of Apostolic Life, for Secular Institutes and for other groups of consecrated persons, as well as for all those individuals who, in their inmost hearts, dedicate themselves to God by a special consecration." Pope John Paul II, Vita Consecrata

Secular Institutes of St. Francis de Sales, Studying locally with direction via phone & online Interests/Hobbies: Singing, Rock-climbing, Cooking Favorite Scripture verse: “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” -Mark 8:34. Brief description of discernment journey: When I discerned that I wasn’t called to either marriage or religious life, I was pretty confused because I thought those were my only vocation options as a Catholic woman. After 10 years of prayer, the sacraments and studying Catholic teaching, God helped me find this little known vocation called Secular Institutes. When I saw that one of them practiced the spirituality of St. Francis de Sales, whose writings set my faith on fire, I knew God called me to this path. Advice for those discerning their vocation: You are called to a vocation, it is not something you choose. So listen to God’s voice, not your own. (And be prepared for the unexpected.) Prayer requests: For all those who are not called to the traditional vocations of marriage, priesthood/diaconate and religious life; that they may find guidance and encouragement and persevere in their discernment journey. |
