Why is it important to give blood?
Giving blood is so important! Here is a story of one of our parishioners, Joanna Stair and Ken Hall. I’d like you to meet our great niece, Eylah. On December 29th, 2019 while enjoying a cuddle with mommy on the couch, mom noticed a lump on Eylah’s belly. The next morning, mom called and made an appointment with their primary care doctor. The soonest she could be seen was Friday, the 3rd. Every single day this thing got a little bigger. On January 3, their primary provider ordered labs, and a CT scan and we were advised if she started complaining of pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, we were to go to the emergency room.” On Saturday the 4th, right after dinner, Eylah started to vomit. They went straight to Riley. The emergency room team decided she should get an ultrasound and CT scan. The scans confirmed she did have a large mass in her belly, but also three smaller ones in her left lung, and one in her right. Cancer.
On January 13 Eylah and her parents, Chris and Rebekah, were given the diagnosis, stage 4 rhabdomyosarcoma. Since that day this sweet child has endured 42 weeks of Chemo, 5 weeks of proton radiation in Cincinnati and multiple transfusions of whole blood and platelets. There are no substitutes for blood, platelets or plasma—they cannot be manufactured. Patients in need of blood or blood products must rely on donations from people like you. Those who are hesitant about donating blood for the first time often find that the donation process is easy and that saving lives is deeply gratifying. Thank you for your generosity to others in need! |
