Make this Commitment and Change Your Life and Our World!
What is a commitment to Adoration? One hour per week with the Lord. Commitment is what transforms the Promise into reality. It is the words that speak boldly of your intentions. And the actions which speak louder than the words. It is making the time when there is none.
Have no time for Adoration? God is the giver of time! The sacrifice of time you give in Adoration of our Lord, He will give back to you. The joy and peace you experience by giving the gift of one hour in Adoration gives the feeling of no sacrifice at all! Most adorers note that when they do not make time for their weekly hour of Adoration, it throws their entire week off balance. And He came to the disciples and finds them sleeping. And He says to Peter, “So, you men could not keep watch with me for one hour?” (Matthew 26:40)
What is in it for me? Your Holy Hour fulfills a longing to be closer to God. Your commitment of just one Holy Hour per week, fulfills not only your own longing to come closer to the Lord, but draws others to Him. A commitment to Holy Hour will repair the brokenness of your sins and the sins of others, most in need of reparation. Saint John Paul II called for “unceasing adoration” and asked us to be “ready” to sacrifice that we may “make reparation for the evils of the world.” (Dominicae Cenae). Many graces flow through St. John’s and the surrounding community by your commitment to Adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. As stated in a message from Jesus to St Margaret Mary: “If you believe in my love in the Blessed Sacrament, If you really believe in My love, then you shall see miracles of My love.”
What is Sacrificial Offering of Self to prayer? The spirit of sacrifice is the spirit of our Christian faith. Jesus is love. Through His sacrifice He expressed His complete love for all of us. He so loved us that He was willing to be the ultimate sacrifice for our salvation. Sacrificial offering of self to prayer in one Holy Hour per week is to say to Jesus: I love you, I trust you, I adore you, thank you for your love and mercy. Thank you for your sacrifice. The only perfect sacrifice is the one Christ offered on the Cross as a total offering to the Father’s love and for our salvation. By uniting ourselves with His sacrifice we can make our lives a sacrifice to God. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2100)
“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13)
What can I learn from St. John about commitment and sacrificial offering of self in prayer? Become the “Apostle whom Jesus loves.” St. John was the only Apostle with the courage to follow Jesus to the cross, because of his sacrifice and commitment to Jesus, he became known as the “Apostle whom Jesus loved”. By sacrificially offering yourself in prayer for one hour in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament you will become like John, Jesus most beloved Apostle. Every action done so as to cling to God in communion of Holiness and thus achieve blessedness is a true sacrifice. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2099)
It was John that heard a loud voice crying out from heaven “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.” (Revelations 5:12) These words express for us that Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is worthy of our unceasing adoration for all He has done for our salvation.
What can I expect as I visit Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament? Jesus waits for you. He desires to spend time with you. Too many times we find it difficult to free up time to spend with friends and family. How many times have you said to a dear friend, “We need to spend more time together”? Jesus is saying to each of us, “We need to spend more time together”. Jesus is always available to us. So the Lord must wait for you to come to Him so He can show you His love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for His help. (Isaiah 30:18)
Please prayerfully consider committing one hour per week, of sacrificial offering of self to prayer in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
