The Geode Project
How to Get Started
Before joining The Geode Project group, the facilitators meet with each potential member to answer any questions, talk more about what to expect, and discuss if the group will be a good fit. If you are interested in taking the next step, click on the button below to fill out a brief online form to indicate your interest. We will then contact you to set up an individual meeting.
Not sure if this group is for you? We understand that everyone’s healing journey is unique and we all have different needs and particular stages along the way. If you’re unsure if The Geode Project is for you or you have additional questions, please reach out to us at geode.project@stjohnsindy.org and we’ll be happy to answer any questions and talk through it with you.

Who can join?
Women: The Geode Project group is currently for women 18 and older. We welcome women from all walks of life who have experienced any form of sexual trauma (childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault, rape, etc). If you’re unsure if this group is a good fit for you or you have any questions, please contact us at geode.project@stjohnsindy.org. Your privacy is important to us. Rest assured, only the two group facilitators and the parish priest have access to this email account. Men: We understand that 1 in 6 males have experienced sexual abuse. The Geode Project wants to support you in finding healing from your experiences as well. Please visit our Hope and Healing section to learn more about healing resources available in the area. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at geode.project@stjohnsindy.org. |
What to expect in The Geode Project
- The group will meet once monthly in person for a time of fellowship, discussion of a new topic related to sexual abuse and identity, and then end with a time of reflection and prayer.
- Each meeting will present a new way to find healing and growth such as reading, discussion, art, and movement. We will inform members of the topic and activities prior to the group so that you can know what to expect when you come. You will not be asked to do or share more than you are comfortable with. We seek to introduce new avenues of healing, not force anyone to participate or heal.
- The Geode Project seeks to provide a safe and non judgemental space where each member feels respected. Members will be coming into the group with a wide variety of experiences. This group invites you to come wherever you are in your healing journey and seeks to provide new avenues to help you further along that path.
- Identifying yourself with terms such as victim or survivor is a deeply personal choice. In order to participate in this group, you do not have to identify with those terms. We only ask that you be willing to identify that your life has been impacted by sexual abuse. You will not be asked to share your story or disclose details of the abuse. Rather, this group seeks to build community and foster discussion around the shared effects and the healing process from sexual abuse of any kind.
- In order to uphold the confidentiality of The Geode Project, each member will be asked to have individual meetings with the group leaders prior to joining. Each individual will be required to sign an agreement that they will be asked to uphold even after their time with the group is complete. This covenant agreement will cover topics such as confidentiality and safety.
- Please note: The Geode Project is not group therapy and will not function as a counseling session. We encourage each member to seek additional healing outside of the group. Please visit the resources tab for more information on local resources, books, videos, etc.
- We want to ensure that this is a positive experience for each group member. We recognize that each person has a unique healing journey and we want to ensure that your needs are being met. As such, during our individual meeting, we will discuss if this group or other resources are the best fit for you and your needs at this time.
