Jubilee Year of Hope
Enter into Advent by entering into the final weeks of the Jubilee!
What is a Jubilee Year? In recent centuries, every 25 years a Jubilee Year is proclaimed for the Church throughout our world. Jubilee years are special times for a more intense focus on conversion from sin to new life in Jesus Christ, for enhanced priority of encountering Jesus in the sacraments, for reflection on a Jubilee theme—2025’s being Pilgrims of Hope.
During the year of hope, the faithful are invited to pursue an indulgence by visiting a pilgrimage site in the Archdiocese along with the requirements of indulgence (see below). During the Year of Hope, every cathedral has a Jubilee cross (our central image of hope). Each diocese chose a cross that is significant in its life of faith. The Archdiocese of Indianapolis chose the cross from the Eucharistic Congress Eucharistic Procession. Note, it is a common misconception that there is a Holy Door at the Cathedral for the Jubilee (such as the Holy Doors in Rome that are opened for the Jubilee). The cross is the Cathedral’s representation of the Jubilee. (Source: All Set for Sunday podcast episode: Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time 2025).
During this special time, the Church offers opportunities to obtain a plenary indulgence (for more information on plenary indulgences, see Catechism of the Catholic Church 1471). An indulgence is obtained when in the proper disposition, and meeting the prescribed conditions, a member of the faithful carries out a prescribed work (see the ordinary prerequisites to receiving an indulgence here: https://www.archindy.org/jubilee/indulgence.html). The Decree granting the Indulgence for the Jubilee of Hope tells us that those who have fulfilled the ordinary prerequisites will be able to obtain a plenary indulgence in one of the following ways that are special to the Jubilee of Hope. Please visit the Archdiocese Jubilee Homepage https://www.archindy.org/jubilee/ for more details on the prescriptions of the Jubilee Indulgence.

Jubilee Prayer
Father in heaven, may the faith you have given us in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother, and the flame of charity enkindled in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, reawaken in us the blessed hope for the coming of your Kingdom. May your grace transform us into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel. May those seeds transform from within both humanity and the whole cosmos in the sure expectation of a new heaven and a new earth, when, with the powers of Evil vanquished, your glory will shine eternally. May the grace of the Jubilee reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope, a yearning for the treasures of heaven. May that same grace spread the joy and peace of our Redeemer throughout the earth. To you our God, eternally blessed, be glory and praise forever. Amen.
